Bathroom Remodelling Guide

A bathroom renovation is no small task, and requires careful planning and thought before diving in. So here’s our guide to everything you need to keep in mind before you begin your bathroom renovation.

The Flooring

Start with what kind of flooring you want. If it’s an easy-care floor, go for porcelain or glazed tiles, and stay away from porous natural stone times, such as limestone. For a non-slip floor, choose tiles with texture, such as matte finishes or sand glazes.

Picking the Best Caulk

Acrylic or hybrid formula caulk will be easy-to-remove in the future in case more changes are needed. Be sure to select caulk that contains a mildewcide, which offers 5 or more years of protection.

Replace the Wiring

Replacing your wiring can eliminate a lot of future headaches. Replace the wiring and swap in new GFCI outlets. Or add additional outlets for hair driers, electric razors and more.

Plan for Niches

You’ll want to arrange for spots to put your shampoo, conditioner, soap and other shower accessories, without adding clunky over-the-showerhead organizers. Add a recessed cubby for these items to be easy to reach and look good too.

Go for a Good Toilet

Don’t skimp out on your toilet, go for one that get the job done right. Look for a toilet with a Maximum Performance Testing (MaP) score of 500 or higher, or a WaterSense-rated toilet, which uses just half of the legal limit.

Pick a Proper Sink

Sinks can be difficult to figure out, so go with the sink that best suits your space and tastes. Often pedestal sinks are a favorite for their slim figure and classic looks.

Picking a Vanity

Sometimes your sink choices come easy if it’s integrated into the vanity. The vanity will be the center piece for your bathroom, and should create the style and theme that you’re going for. Look for the vanity that has lots of storage and doesn’t take up too much space.

Countertops

Selecting a countertop doesn’t have to be difficult – simply remember that natural stone is highly expensive but durable and beautiful, resin-based for usual shapes or dimensions and laminate for tight budgets.
