Taking your bathroom from “drab” to “fab”!
Updating a bathroom is a big undertaking that requires a lot of planning and fore thought in order to come out just the way you want. Here’s our top 10 most important things to consider before starting your next bathroom renovation:
Select Luxurious Fixtures
Your fixtures stand out, and picking a pedestal sink with graceful lines is more attractive than a blocky cabinet vanity. Tubs can be elegant and luxurious on their own, providing both an amazing wash and something beautiful to look at. Don’t skimp on the fixtures, as they are one of the defining features of your new bathroom.
Test Drive your Tub
Before buying your new bathtub, give it a test. Remember, bigger isn’t always better. Typically, a 60” bathtub is a great size, providing enough room to stretch out while providing secure footing. Feel the angles on your back, is it comfortable? Does it provide neck support? These are all thing you’ll want to know before the bathtub gets installed.
Beneath your Feet
There’s many different types of flooring to choose from for your new bathroom. Ceramic, marble, and stone tiles are all excellent choices, as they are durable and water-resistant. Subfloor heating coils can be installed to make these surfaces warm to the touch.
21st Century Shower
Many luxury houses have adopted an open concept shower, for good reason. These types of showers don’t need a curtain or door, and have much more space than a traditional shower. Also, get well-designed drainage with an overhead mounted showerhead which will create less steam.
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall
Compliment your beautiful vanity with a beautiful mirror. One luxurious mirror over your stunning vanity can create more ambiance than many different mirrored surfaces. Consider installing wall-mounted makeup mirrors, along with a lighted, mirrored shaving niche in the shower.
Take Advantage of Space
Use every inch of your bathroom to make storage or to add new fixtures. Use the space between wall studs by recessing a tall storage cabinet into the wall to maximize vertical storage while saving floor space. The cabinet should have an interior depth of at least three inches and a door flush with the wall.
Double the Fun
Do you have bathrooms back to back in your home? Consider getting a shower with doors on both sides that lead to both rooms to maximize space. Or you can turn a closet next to the bathroom into a small ensuite.
Lighting that Works
Good lighting is very important to any bathroom. Combine the usefulness of halogen pot lights with the beauty of over-the-mirror lighting or side mounted lights. Always install dimmers.
Get a Quality Toilet
A quality toilet doesn’t take big bucks. Simply do your research and find which ones are the most efficient while using less water. Models with elongated bowls and seats are usually the most comfortable.
Get the Accessories
If you find yourself with some extra money, indulge yourself with an expanded spa-like bathroom that includes a dressing room, television, fireplace or makeup vanity.
